Fill in the Blank Poem

I am from Dr Pepper from leotards and balance beams I am from gentle and kind I am from mountain air crisp, clean, beautiful filling you, supporting you, strengthening you I am from BYU legacy, mac&cheese and cherry jello I am from sprained ankles and dried tears I'm from too sensitive, too sweet, too nice and am so much more Even alone, I am from phoenix ash from strong family and stronger conviction, who does the next right thing. (Side note for me to remember, this would be a really cool exercise with monologues)

  The Assignment: (Changes highlighted) Each student will choose an existing, media representation of the culture, race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, etc. with which he/she identifies. Medium Constraint: The representation may be in any medium (film, photograph,visual art, poetry, literature, advertisement, news article, song, music video, etc.) but the specific media artifact they reference should be no more than 2 years old . 5 points Creative Constraint: Students will then remix the representation present in the media artifact. Seat Assignment Creation

  In 22 minutes in class today, you will complete a media recreation assignment based on the first four pictures you see when opening any type of social media platform using only the people and the materials that are immediately available to you (in your backpack or around the classroom) and post the completed four recreations on your blog.

 In 22 minutes, in class today/within the classroom space, you will utilize phone video resources (from camera/filming to any video editing apps) to create an abstract/artistic video (less than 2 min long) which answers the question: "What unique skill or attribute do I have that will make me a good teacher?", and which will be posted as a video clip on your blog.

Process Piece

  Click here for my Process Piece audio! I chose to record an activity that I pretty regularly participate in: Ordering a soda from Swig (or Sodalicious when I have the time when I have time to go more out of my way). I chose this process first and foremost for the fact it will make people laugh: I enjoy bringing smiles and being a cliche of myself. Below the surface however, there is a much more personal reason for my frequent visits for Dr Pepper. I have a chronic iron deficiency which leaves me drained nearly before the day even begins. The small dose of caffeine is what I have had to resort to to keep my academic scholarship, helping me stay awake in classes. I am additionally drawn to this idea because I was told on a date very recently that my iron deficiency makes me undateable. Joy. Medium Specificity

  I used a website called bomomo.com to create this piece. At first sight, it may look like a mess of lines, something that anyone could have created without any additional thought, even by a young child. That is probably the thing I love most about this medium: It harbors no expectations as to what art is or is not. It has a number of options for different brush strokes (all randomly generated within its own style). Some of the strokes have color, while others are monochromatic black and white. Some swirl and others create lines. It is all randomly generated, making it impossible to be too cerebral about it (probably my biggest downfall when it comes to art creation), as well as barring the possibility of creating the same piece twice. As I was creating this, I used only the straight line generator (which chooses color and direction randomly but otherwise remains linear) and the one I can only call the 'vein maker' (originating from the click of the mouse and extending randoml...

Digital Technology Goals

1) Familiarize myself with and practice using visual presentation software (photoshop and the like) 2) Compile a list of all the things I've learned about remote and digital learning to re-train myself in years to come/remind myself of the things I can do 3) Make communication a priority with my students and parents (utilize newsletters, blogs, etc) 4) Orient my students to the software I will be using (rather than just using and not explaining) 5) Learn and practice at least one new software/media resource each semester
